Only weeks ago, it seemed that the New Zealand soprano Kiri Te Kanawa was preparing for her exit from the operatic stage: in August, she was quoted by The Daily Telegraph as saying that a production of Strauss’s “Rosenkavalier” at the Cologne Opera in April 2010 would be her last. “It’s not as if I want to do it on a regular basis now, because it’s exhausting,” she said. This was interpreted to mean that she was winding down her opera career though she would continue to perform concerts. But on Thursday, Ms. Te Kanawa, above right, told ABC News in Australia that she had no plans to retire after a set of concerts this week at the Sydney Opera House. “I haven’t got any plans to die either,” she said, according to the ABC report. “I mean, that could be on the cards too before I retire.”
in August, she was quoted by The Daily Telegraph as saying that a production of Strauss’s “Rosenkavalier” (「薔薇の騎士」)at the Cologne Opera in April 2010 would be her last.
